How Do People Afford It?

Owning Multiple Cars

Last night I had a dream that the new owner of my '93 MR2 wanted to sell it back to me.  I know, dreaming about cars, weird right?  But anyway, I really wish I could have held on to that car.  Don't get me wrong, I love my Subie and it's still a priority, but I definitely have a huge soft spot for my first car.  If I didn't need the money for a down payment, I would have hung on to that little mid-ship runabout.  I guess I can't really ball like that and own two cars at once, I can only pretend like in this photo.  (This picture was taken right before the MR2 was picked up and the Subaru was bone stock).

Almost every car enthusiast I know owns a few different cars.  Usually one badass car that isn't too street-legal, and a daily driver at the minimum.  Then there are some friends of mine that have a luxury daily driver on top of that to ball in, a few project cars, a few shop cars, etc.  What am I doing wrong?  I've toyed with the idea of picking up a 240 or another MR2 as project builds, but it's just an idea chilling back in my head far from reality.  I've also thought about picking up something like a Yaris as a daily driver to save gas and stay legal, but it's just not in the cards.  I blame Primedia, (lol) but honestly, I need more money to throw around on cars.  I should have been a doctor or lawyer, or better yet, I should find a sugar momma.  I guess I just need to start saving my pennies.  Maybe if I just move in with my mom I can rock buff cars all day, but is that really an option?  Come on now.  I'll take the sugar momma, that's my first choice.

Aside from money, there are too many reasons owning multiple cars will only be a dream for me.  For one, all of the other costs for registering and maintaining the car will work me.  Registering cars in CA is no joke.  Another thing to think about is where to put these new toys.  Parking at my place is already a disaster.  I have a two car garage, but there is just too much crap in there to even park one car.  Then, I have to think about parts.  You think I could pick up a 240 and keep it stock?  HAH!  Any car for that matter wouldn't stay stock unless it's a designated daily driver, in which case I would mod the helll out of my Subie, yet more money to be spent.

I don't even know why I'm thinking about this.  I need to focus on finishing the WRX first.  I think this came about because I just came close to a deal on an R32 GT-R.  I would kill for a GT-R, but it's just not financially right until my Subie is paid off.  Thinking about owning both of these cars at once made me giddy, then angry, then sad.  I'm just getting my hopes up.  I just wish I didn't have to sell one car to make room for another one.  I guess I just need to play the lotto more often.  A GT-R would be sick, but maybe I should just pick up an S13.  But come to think of it, S13s and S14s are going for way too much money these days due to their recent popularity boom.  I might as well just spring for the GT-R.  Hello cup of noodles, here I come, Mom.
