Toyota recently gave the FT-HS hybrid sports car concept the green light (no pun-intended).  Scheduled to go into production in 2009, the FT-HS will feature Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive most likely coupled to a 3.5 liter V6.  Said to be Supra's long awaited replacement, the FT-HS promises to deliver with 400 horsepower of carpool lane fury.  Could hybrids be the future of sports cars?  We'll just have to wait until 2009 to see.

My take?  By the time the FT-HS goes into production, they should update the looks and change the name.  Both should lean more towards Supra, but that's just the Supra fan in me.  It would be nice to have something that looks closer to the Supra concept car that most resembles the iconic MKIV (pictures found here).  After realizing that I could own a 400HP, RWD car with good gas mileage and carpool lane access, (not to mention Toyota's first class reliability and build quality) I think I may have found my next car.  I just hope those Prius drivers stay out of my way!
