Is JDM The New Rice?

JDM Performance Parts and Exterior Modifications

It seems like in a world based on selling parts, everyone and their mother claims JDM to no end.  I can understand certain things such as SR20DET motors, rare functional parts only sold in Japan, and maybe even JDM lighting because of its clean, amber-less appearance and usual upgrade to projectors or HIDs.  But when people go to all lengths paying out of their ass just to claim JDM, I think it goes a little far.

Don't get me wrong, certain stuff made in Japan is sick as helll. Let's not forget they've gotten better cars than us for years.  Not only better versions of US market cars (see Silvia), but better models all together (see Skyline GT-R).  Parts, too.  Certain wheels, exterior parts, and go-fast parts might be worth it, but every single Ebay auction has JDM in the title.  People all over the internet are claiming their car is JDM as if its the new cool thing.  I think it's way too over-hyped.  There is nothing that bugs me more than an RSX with Honda Integra Badges and Acura center caps on the wheels and a big JDM "newb" driver sticker on the window.  To me, that is "Rice."  Stock JDM parts are still STOCK parts.  Anyone else out there with me, or would you throw down ridiculous amounts of cash just to say you have every little cool, hard to find, JDM part?
