Have you ever wanted to get into drifting only to have your dreams smashed by the all-mighty dollar? With tires not coming cheap and blown motors and banged up body panels to fix, you need quite a bit of cash to be competitive.
Luckily for the rest of us, Yokomo, renowned radio controlled car maker, has a 1/10 scale, drift specific r/c car complete with either a street car body or a scale replica of an actual D1 grand prix car. For around $300 (the price of about 1 and a half tires) you can jump right into the hobby, having everything you need to get out there and blast sideways down your street. Keep in mind, these aren’t your typical $20 radio shack toys, these things are fully adjustable, scaled down cars capable of some serious speed. What makes the Yokomo Drift Kit actually drift so well is the set-up. You can adjust everything from the suspension to the limited-slip-like differentials. The special drift specific tires are set-up to deliver more or less traction based on camber degree. These things are the real deal.
The R/C Drifting scene has been blowing up like crazy. Teams such as Groovy Drift have been popping up all over, hosting their very own 1/10 scale drift competitions as well as laid back, local parking lot meets where hobbyists hang out, battle on the track, and just talk about the latest happenings in the scene.
Check out Groovy Drift for more info on competitions, local meets, car set-ups, pictures, you name it. You can also check out Yokomo USA’s home page for the latest product releases.
